Difference between computer memory and hard drive
What is a hard drive ?
Called “hard-drive” or “hard-disk” it`s only purpose is to store data. It can vary in size and amount of data that it can store. So, hard drives are used to store information. Generally they are identified as having an IDE or SATA connection (nowadays SATA is the standard), 2.5″ or 3.5″ in physical size and anywhere from 20gb (very old) to 4Tb in storage s
What is memory ?
Memory or technically called RAM (Random-access-memory) is used to store currently running programs, including the operating system. For example when you want to create a new Excel file, the program is loaded into the memory and when you close it the program will be unloaded from the memory. Thus, the memory is a volatile environment that does not keep personal files but only stores system data required by your computer only when the computer is on and it actually requires that data.
Conclusion :
Memory stores certain programs needed by the system at certain times and it will be cleared when the computer shuts down and hard drive refers to where the data is stored ( Windows files and personal files) and it does not get cleared when the computer shuts down
